We are delighted
to welcome
newcomers to any
of our walks.
The standard
distance of ten
miles might seem
rather
intimidating at
first, but we
take our walks
at a steady pace
so that we can
enjoy the views
and the
conversation.
If you are
reasonably fit
and active, you
may be surprised
at how easily
you cope and how
soon the day
passes.
Clothes:
No matter what
leisure
interests you
develop, shops
and advertisers
will try to
persuade you
that lots of
expensive kit is
essential.
For social
rambling, the
only necessities
are comfortable
footwear sturdy
enough to
protect your
feet, clothes
that are
suitable for the
time of year, a
waterproof
jacket and in
season,
waterproof
over-trousers.
Jeans and
trousers made
from denim or
other heavy
material are
best avoided,
because if they
get wet, they
stay wet, cold
and clinging.
Thick walking
socks will help
to cushion your
feet.
You will also
need a small
backpack to
carry your
waterproofs, a drink,
packed lunch,
and depending on
the weather,
gloves and a
hat.
From late spring
to early autumn,
inexpensive
fabric boots are
perfectly
adequate,
although they
are rarely as
waterproof as
the makers
claim.
Most people
choose leather
boots for
winter, although
even these need
not be too
expensive.
Patches of mud
are far from
unknown, so it
makes sense to
bring a change
of footwear, if
only to avoid
trampling dirt
into your car. |

Your first walk:
If you are
unsure about the
location of the
start point,
have any
questions, or if
you would prefer
to travel with
someone, please
email us, or
phone 01723
863975 or email
any of the
individuals on
the
Contact Us
page.
There is no
charge to
attend, and we
we would be
happy for you to
attend a few
walks before
deciding whether
you would like
to join The
Ramblers.
The walk will be
led by an
experienced
member, who will
have checked the
route, and a
back-marker will
ensure that no
one goes astray.
We always stop
after about an
hour for
refreshment,
then there will
be a picnic
lunch at about
12.30-1pm,
in a scenic
sunny spot if
possible.
The walk will
probably end at
about
3.15-3.45pm. |
